Root Canal Therapy in Fontana, CA, Can Save Your Tooth
Your dentist tries to save your natural teeth from loss or extraction whenever possible. A root canal treatment can help them do that!
Root canals have an unfair reputation for being painful or complex. Neither is true. A root canal is a straightforward treatment that removes infection and eliminates pain.
Signs You Need Root Canal Treatment
Root canals are dental emergencies because they are typically excruciating, and the infection can spread. If you have an infected tooth root, you may notice some or all of the following symptoms:
- A toothache or growing tooth sensitivity
- Jaw or facial swelling near the painful tooth
- A bump or blister on the gum near the painful tooth
If the tooth cannot be saved through root canal therapy and crowning, we’ll discuss tooth replacement options. These include partial dentures, bridges, and dental implants.
The Root Canal Treatment Process
Before starting work, we ensure the area around your tooth is numb. Then, the dentist extracts the infection from your tooth’s canal, rinses it, and ensures healthy margins. We seal the tooth to promote healing.
If your root infection is emerging and we notice it during a regular checkup before you experience pain, the dentist may be able to plan treatment and offer sedation dentistry. However, because most root infections are dental emergencies, we can’t always plan for advanced sedation, which (in some cases) requires taking a lengthy medical history. Either way, you’ll not experience pain!
Several hours after root canal treatment, you can experience mild soreness, but this is temporary and treatable with an over-the-counter pain medication.
After a week or two, you return to our dental office for tooth crowning to restabilize the tooth. Restoring your treated tooth is not painful.
