Crowns & Bridges in Fontana, CA
In the past, getting a crown or a bridge meant sticky impression trays, a temporary restoration, and weeks of waiting for your new restoration to return from the dental lab.
At WinningSmiles, we value our patients’ comfort and time. This is why we’ve invested in the Omnicam CEREC system. This technological advancement allows us to create custom-made crowns and bridges right here in our dental office, eliminating the need for gag-inducing impressions, temporaries, and a long wait.
Why Do I Need a Crown or Bridge?
Dental crowns are a restoration option that we can use to solve a number of common dental concerns. Using crowns, we can:
- Replace a lost tooth as part of a dental implant system
- Repair a tooth damaged by decay or injury
- Protect a tooth following root canal therapy
- Improve the appearance of a severely discolored or misshapen tooth
Modern crowns are made from tooth-colored ceramic, and your WinningSmiles dentist will carefully design your crown based on the shape and shade of your other natural teeth so that your crown blends in beautifully with the rest of your smile.
A dental bridge is a system of crowns used to replace missing teeth. The unit is held in place by crowns that fit over the adjacent teeth. A replacement tooth, called a pontic, fits into the gap for a seamless repair that looks natural and completes the chewing surface. Depending on the number of missing teeth, a bridge can also be held in place with crowns that affix to dental implants.
What Is CEREC?
CEREC is an acronym that is short for “chairside economical restoration of esthetic ceramics.” You might also hear it used as shorthand for ceramic reconstruction. In essence, CEREC is an innovative use of CAD/CAM technology that allows us to design crowns and bridges on computer software and then craft them using a milling machine right here in our dental office.
Once you and your dentist have agreed that a crown or bridge is the most appropriate treatment option for your needs, we’ll make any needed changes to the shape of your tooth to remove damaged areas and allow the restoration to fit properly among your other teeth. Once this is done, we’ll digitally scan your teeth to create a “digital impression.” This information is transferred to our specialized software, which your dentist then uses to craft your dental crown or bridge.
The specifications for your crown or bridge are sent to the milling machine, which creates your restoration from a small block of tooth-colored ceramic while you rest comfortably in our dental practice. Ceramic crowns and bridges are both esthetic and durable. Best of all, unlike crowns and bridges of the past that combined ceramic or porcelain with metal, they are practically indistinguishable from natural teeth. One of our goals is for people to appreciate your friendly and attractive smile – not your dental work!
Once the new crown or bridge is complete, your dentist will test it out and try it on to make sure that the fit and appearance are perfect. When you and your dentist are both satisfied with the final result, it will be cemented in place. Once this is done, you’ll be all set and free to go on about the rest of your day!
