I'm afraid of going to the dentist. How can you help?
If you're afraid of going to the dentist, you are certainly not alone. Millions of Americans have some level of dental fear; many of them are so afraid that they avoid going to the dentist altogether.
Unfortunately, avoiding the dentist is not a helpful strategy. Without regular care, you are more likely to experience a range of problems, and we don't want anyone to have to deal with painful teeth, bad breath, or bleeding gums.
At Winning Smiles, we offer three levels of sedation dentistry to make it easier for patients to get the care they need without all the fear and anxiety:
- Nitrous oxide is a mild sedative inhaled through a mask. The medication acts quickly and the effect is gone almost as soon as we remove the mask, making it easy for you to get back to your daily schedule.
- Oral sedation requires that you take a pill prior to your appointment. The medication makes you drowsy but allows you to stay awake (although many patients do choose to drift off!). Because the medication is stronger and takes longer to wear off, you will need a ride to and from our office.
- IV sedation sends the medication directly to your veins for stronger sedation and fast action. Many people who choose IV sedation don't remember anything following their appointment. Like oral sedation, the effects can take some time to wear off so you will need a ride.
We want to make it easier for you to get the care you need. Call our practice to learn more about sedation dentistry.
